The American Hospital Association (AHA) has responded to a discussion draft of legislation designed to increase Medicare’s coverage and reimbursement for telehealth. Calling the draft “a step in the right direction,” AHA Executive Vice President Rick Pollack pressed for even more universal impact in his letter to the House working group. “However, given the growing body of evidence that telehealth increases quality, improves patient satisfaction and reduces costs, we believe a more global approach to expanding Medicare coverage of telehealth is warranted,” AHA Newsreports.
The American Telemedicine Association has also recently released a tool to help consumers stay informed on this and other pieces of legislation regarding telemedicine. Potential patients and providers can check the status of bills in their state as well as get an understandable translation here. As the potential value of telemedicine becomes increasingly recognized, new and exciting legislation promises to expand its reach and accessibility.
