Perhaps the most significant question surrounding the growing industry of telemedicine and virtual health care is one of insurance coverage. While telemedicine is lauded as potentially the most promising solution to an overburdened and overpriced health care system, it’s not yet included in standard health care plans. The map below, from ncsl.org, offers a comprehensive, state by state breakdown of existing telehealth coverage.

While this map serves as an excellent starting point for understanding telemedicine coverage in your area, new legislation is being introduced in several states that would expand telehealth parity even further. Our last article, Telemedicine and the Parity Hurdle, details some of said legislation.

It seems safe to say that, should telehealth industry maintain its current rate of growth and increased awareness, we may be looking at an entirely red map sometime in the not too distant future.
